Sing Choral Evensong Online
Due to the pandemic created by COVID-19, and the isolation measures which have been put in place to combat the spread of the virus, many people’s lives have been affected. However, through the power of music, and with the help of social media, it is possible to support each other at this difficult time and still enjoy the practice of singing together. Singing is scientifically proven to be beneficial to people’s health, and the social act of singing as a group is both enjoyable and good for the general wellbeing of everyone. We understand that many singers look forward to their weekly choir rehearsals in preparation for Sunday services, but what with the closure of churches and rehearsal spaces, as well as the new rules to restrict social movement, we at FISP have come up with a way to help maintain some of this musical activity.
Under the banner of the Florence International Singing Programme (FISP), we have devised a project that will hopefully allow people to participate in choral church music throughout the country during this time of isolation. If you have never experienced choral evensong then this is your chance to sing it! Spread the word to family, friends, and other choir members so that as many people as possible can take part in this fun and important project. It is vital during difficult times such as these to join together in solidarity, and by creating wonderful music together it is a reminder to us all that we are not alone in our isolation.
If you are interested in learning more about taking part in this project please subscribe using the form below.
Following your subscription, you will be sent a password to access your individual voice parts, sheet music and rehearsal videos. Using these resources, you can learn your part, and then, using your smartphone, voice record or video yourself singing your part along with the backing tracks provided (organ accompaniment). Please do remember to put your headphones on whilst recording, so that we only receive your singing voices and not multiple backing tracks!
Once you have finished recording, send your recording/ video as an email attachment to email@example.com with the subject heading “Evensong Online”. We will then collate these into one big file for everyone to listen to!
Please donate! We understand that not everyone will be able to contribute to this project, but for those who find themselves able to, and have enjoyed taking part, we would be very grateful for any generosity which you can provide. Each new piece takes 20 hours to prepare, record and then execute. All donations will go directly to musicians who have had work cancelled due to COVID-19, and to those who have given up their time to help make this project possible.
